Switch gear symbols worn off.....
Hi all, other than buying new ones, has anyone managed to remedy the issue of worn off symbols on the various switches? Mine are barely visible and it would be nice to get them back to how they should be.
I know it is not a big deal but the bike is so clean it seems a shame to be spoilt by faded switch symbols......
Regards
John

You can replace the plaques on the rocker switches, part no. 11http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=61_0268
Not sure how to deal with handlebar switches.

Re: Switch gear symbols worn off.....
I wondered about that when I saw an R1100R outside the local Yamaha dealer recently - the markings on the switchgear had all but disappeared.
Is it sunlight or wear from use? Either way, I can't see that it would be possible to restore the markings, unfortunately and it seems daft to replace switchgear that's working fine just for cosmetic reasons, but I get where you're coming from: if the rest of the bike looks good, the switches let it down.
Let us know if you ever find a solution as it's a problem most of us will face as our bikes get older, I imagine.
I may be lucky with mine at 69k miles - maybe it's always been garaged or otherwise stored out of daylight, but the switchgear markings are still clear.

Re: Switch gear symbols worn off.....
I wonder if I could use a small engraving tool to "trace" the symbols and then fill with white paint? Bit risky methinks! May have a practice on a scrap piece of plastic and see if it works!!!

Re: Switch gear symbols worn off.....
in answer to your question black sugru apparently does the job from what their website says.
by using paint or similar it looks messy and when you wipe after it wipes the paint away as well
as sugru is a resistant type of glue it adheres to the sunk symbols and when you wipe after it doesnt wipe the sunk glue.
hope this helps i havent tried it yet as blacks dont have it atm but like i said the website advertises it as doing so.
actually i got it wrong it was lifehacker website here is the link.

Re: Switch gear symbols worn off.....
HI
I had the same problem and agonized for ages about what to do. Eventually bit the bullet and bought this
Universal Waterproof Permanent Paint Pen Oil Marker for Car Tyres, Arts & Crafts( 122474837699 )
off Ebay, white .5mm. Cleaned the switches with brake cleaner, then slowly traced the outlines. Results are very good, not worn off in 6 months. Yes they are not perfect, but to my mind it makes my bike unique, possibly less attractive to thieves ?. I don't have a steady hand, but its not too difficult. Will try to post a pic later (when it stops raining). And for £2 delivered its worth a go !

Re: Switch gear symbols worn off.....
Decades ago when I bought my much-missed used K75C, the young girl salesperson told me that the kitchen-cleaning product Jif ( now known as Cif ) gently rubbed on the faded yellow and orange thumb-levers with a soft cloth brought back the colour.
And she wasn't lying....

This is the list of people I'd trust with my bike.

Re: Switch gear symbols worn off.....
I have recently purchased a set of these. Quality looks good, just have to find the time to fit them, after my GPS trials and tribulations.

I also have the same issue with my 2018 BMW G310R. My indicators and kill switch symbols are gone and the rest are fading slowly in my bike. I found the kill switch part on eBay but it was super expensive so, I skipped it.

Hi Dalerob123
go over to the "Introduce yourself" section and tell us about yourself, wherein India are you based ? It's a BIG place so just the general area would be good to get an idea of what its like
