1967 R50/2 Trade

I've owned two K bikes, several R100RTs, /5, R100T and a couple modern BMWs. I "may" have the opportunity to make a trade on this bike. I think it's a '67 R50/2. So my question: Is there something in the upkeep or maintenance of this motorcycle that I should consider. I'm asking about the hidden weak point that I wouldn't think about since it is a different animal from what I'm used to. Like the shims in the wheel bearings of a /5 that I was not aware of. Tightening the axel nut is important. If it works out I will reveal what I traded. You will be surprised!

Oil Slingers in the engine need the engine to be dismantled to do proper cleaning etc

But I have not yet worked on one of these

Hi,

Can I suggest your post would be better off in the 'Veteran, Vintage and Classic' section.. You're very welcome here, of course, but this section is mainly inhabited by owners of the later (post 1969) boxers which are a very different animal to the earlier machines. You'll get much more information and advice in the appropriate section.

I hope the swap goes according to plan and you enjoy the machine.

A can of worms? I've just read the article by Craig Vechorik explaining the Importance of Cleaning Oil Slingers.

A guess there are not shortcuts!? Are there?

Nope. No shortcuts as explained by Sno Bum. Second and third thoughts on the advisability of owning a /2. '

We have a member 'Bill Smithson' who is experienced on the older BMW models.

He has not been well but hopefully is better now and able to offer comment on your post.

It's been so long since I posted I didn't think anyone was home over here! A friend really, really wanted my tractor. A 1953 Ford Jubilee with the auxiliary Sherman transmission and front hydraulics. I gave him a snow blade and finish mower. The tractor runs fine with good rubber BUT it is 1953 vintage. In other words there are lots of hours on the engine and everything else. About 10 years ago I bought a new modern tractor that does everything that I need. So the Ford sat for those years. Some years I drained old fuel and put in fresh but never used it. Actually some years it never got started.

So my friend is sure he has taken advantage of me and got the best of this trade. I feel I got the best of the deal. So that makes it a great deal!

Oh man I wish I had enough room to stick a tractor not in the way for 10 years. Since I got the bike my Smart car lives up at my mum's house and even with the bike I have to start and move fatens Citroen to get out.

For Mjolinor. Out of sight, out of mind. Just sitting in a shed. I got most of the lumber for the shed from high school bleachers that were torn down and replaced.

I have a 1957 R50/2

its a lovely bike, not the fastest but starts the first or second kick. I bought mine in an almost fully restored condition, with a single seat.

Im off to the Colmbres rally in Northern Spain on this year, uses a bit of oil but otherwise goes without any fuss.

The rally is likely to be fully subscribed for October, but you can get into contact with the organisers Via the poster. This is not the Moto Piston rally, but is much more low key and in the spirit of the original moto piston rally. its cheap, very spanish and full of a variety of interesting bikes.
