Correct header and muffler for '51 R67

Postby r75boxer » Fri Feb 12, 2016 4:10 pm

Hello all. I am in the process of ordering a bunch of bits for my R67 project and have come to a fork in the road. The exhaust set that is on the bike (I believe) is not what the bike calls for - it should be straight header pipes and mufflers without the 'cut out'. The bike has a bent header with a cut out in each muffler.

Can anyone help? I 'd hate to order the wrong ones from Germany as an exchange would be very expensive.

Well, I did some more digging yesterday and had help from a friend on this side of the pond. Apparently all R67 units built had the straight pipe and swallow tail muffler with hanger. It wasn't until the later R67/2 units were produced that the curved header pipe with cut-out muffler came into use. Also, the latest production of the R67/2 (1953 - ) had a torpedo shaped muffler with 'captive nut'. Not sure what a captive nut is but suspect it couldn't get away .... .
