Northern Meet this Sunday (July 14th 2019) at The Beach Cafe, Montrose

Postby Rob Frankhamr » Wed Jul 10, 2019 11:11 am

Hi Guys & Gals,

The seventh Northern Meet of the 2019 season is on 14/7/2019 12:00 - 13:00 at the The Beach Cafe, Traill Dr, Montrose DD10 8EL (OS Grid NO72645 57920) Sponsor is Keith (Ruralman) who cannot be present on this occasion. The 'stand in' host will be Rob (Rob Frankhamr). Open to Club Members, Forum Members and Friends of either. Toilets, Food and beverages and Parking available.

Nearest fuel:
Petrol is available from two stations in Montrose.

For anyone interested, there is a small but very interesting aircraft museum on the site of RAF Montrose, the first operational military airbase to be opened in the UK (now sadly an industrial estate  ). This is located to the North of the town. There is also an operational steam railway not far away at Brechin.

Hope to see you all

Regards
Rob

I'd love to be there but, unfortunately, I'm sweltering in the Florida sunshine.
Have a great meet and I hope to see you at the next one. ☺

Hi, It is a bit far to go for the day and I am working Sat morning and on Mon.
I need to do an oil change on Walter the K75 and May start to look seriously at exhaust and fork seals on the R100R. I have got seals, oil and some gaiters so can amuse myself working on rather than riding a bike.
It's not grim up North!
since 1994 a R100R and from Oct 2015 "Walter" K75S, and from Aug 2016 R850R!

Well. I'd love to say it was a wonderful meet but that implies more than one person  . Not, I might add, totally unexpected.

Anyway, I had a great good run. Outbound from home to Montrose via Dunkeld, Coupar Angus, Glamis, and Forfar. It was a bit overcast but dry and pleasant so I wandered around the front for a bit, feeling very sorry for all the frustrated kids (because the tide was in), before going in the cafe. The cafe has been 'done up' since I was last there and half of it is a really good Burger restaurant so that was lunch sorted!

As usual, I decided on a somewhat more scenic route home... From Montrose, North through Fettercairn, then up the B974/B976 to Aboyne (in Royal Deeside Don'cha know). From there, I cut across to The Pass of Ballater and continuing the aforementioned Northerly trend, it was up the A939 through Cock Bridge and over 'The Lecht' to Tomintoul. The route continued along the A939 eventually emerging on the A95 at Speybridge.

From Speybridge, I followed the A95 to Aviemore, then the B9152 and A86 through Kingussie and Newtonmore to Laggan (anything to stay of the dreaded A9 for as long as possible). At Laggan, I turned left onto the A889 through Dalwhinnie and in the end was forced to join the A9 (No other choice unless you want to go via Fort William).

A final fuel stop at Blair Atholl, then it was back into the back of beyond and home.

So, in the end a great day was had by... well... me... with a great variety of different roads including some of the best ones in the country. Hope to see the rest of you next time...

Hi Rob,
Sorry to hear that you were on your own at the Montrose Meet, but the burger looked great!
See you in Hawick at the end of July

Keith
