Oh man, I have an overwhelming desire to kidnap her and elope to Fiji to live off pineapples and coconuts.

I almost met her in 2018.

We had been in touch for a while after I had bought her book, and she said she'd be in the Loire region of France in the Spring for a couple conferences... A buddy and I planned on riding our bikes over there -a mere 300 miles- and meet her, get the book signed, maybe go for a bite... Nothing fancy but interesting conversation about bikes and bikers stuff.

My buddy relented and I felt it would be a bit awkward to show up alone.... Was that a good idea! Els had just forgotten to mention her trip was part of a dozen or so other female riders enrolled on a tour sponsored by MotorLegend, a biker gear store catering (expensive stuff) to the financially comfortable rider... My showing up alone would have really been awkward !!

Anyhoo, picture taken during that trip. She rides one of the last 95 GS in "Kalahari" version...

My brother's gf worked on that book (for the publishing company) and wangled us tickets to her 'seminar' at Vines a couple of years ago.

I think we said 'hello' to her, but she was pretty busy. Her rebuilt bike was there too and we spent some time looking it over.

Jupiter’s Travels. A great read

I have to admit, that book changed my life, the whole concept of travelling alone, and the freedoms and opportunities it holds. I’d done loads of motorcycle travelling with other people and always found it a tedious chore after a few days, but Ted inspired me to ride to France alone, and that was the start.

Life was never the same again, and several years later, several dozen solo trips to Europe on bikes, I set off to back pack around the world. Alone, of course.

I really wanted to go on a bike, but finances didn’t allow.

13 years later I did come back to England, and brought a bike with me.
