I have a screw in the rear tyre of my f800 gt which has had minimal wear. My mate is telling me to goop the tyre and carry one riding - removing the screw, obviously. I'm not totally convinced as I think that a professional plug repair may be a better way to go. He is saying that he rode all over the continent on a tyre repaired with goop with no problems and if I use it, it will prevent me from having a future puncture in the tyre. I should mention that I'm an occasional rider.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks Dave

Re: Goop or professional repair?
check out Stop N Go puncture kit many folks report they have used these and they have used them for the remainder of life in the tyre
I have used them and prefer to stick a 5mm drill through the hole (at Home) rather than the rasp thing you are provided with
Definitely had 3000 miles with one in it and never a leak

Hmmm, I've got that kit but I'm sure it has limits as to subsequent usage indicating that it's only a temporary repair?

That's the compensation driven society that we now live in. If they set the maximum time to a minimum without it affecting sales they have less risk.Hmmm, I've got that kit but I'm sure it has limits as to subsequent usage indicating that it's only a temporary repair?

I carry, & have used the emergency repair kits, but always have the plug replaced
with a permanent repair by a tyre fitter. The plugs used by tyre fitters are of the
mushroom type, & seal around the hole in the same way as fitting a patch to an
inner tube works, with the added bonus that the patch is on the inside & aided by
air pressure pushing it against the inner surface of the tyre. You also get the tyre
checked for any damage that isn't visible from the outside.
