F650 Strada Screen

Postby mobydick » Tue Oct 30, 2018 7:56 pm

I get a lot of wind buffeting from the screen and surfing the net it seems to be a problem for many owners. Is there a wider taller screen that goes some way to overcoming this. It gets expensive buying screens on spec. and then finding little improvement. I get the feeling that a wider screen is the way to go. I also wonder how much the mirrors are causing turbulence as they are at face height. Is there a solution? John

Unfortunately, the solution for someone else may not suit you. Even different snoods can affect buffeting.

You will get the least buffeting with no screen. If you can pick up a cheap screen and reduce its size to protect your clocks..... obviously you could cut your existing screen down, but I would rather do that on another.

The down side will be more wind pressure on your chest, but personally, if the buffeting is bad, anything is better. I’ve experience really bad buffeting in the past, I’m pretty much settled now.

Sorry if I haven’t given you a promising answer.

I’ll take a piccy to show you what I have now when I ride to work tomorrow. It looks wierd, but works pretty well. It was a tall screen which I cut, tried, cut, tried again, bent, tried, bent again....

Thanks for taking the time to do this. That really is different and seems to be a lot further forward than on the Strada.
My starting point must be to remove completely and work back from there. Stiff cardboard has work before when I experimented with wind deflectors so will try that. I am also going to remove the wing mirrors as they are at head height just to prove a point to myself. Its the one thing that really disappoints me with this bike after running BMW's for the last 30 years with big fairings and screens. I have got soft. John

Sadly the Strada doesn't get a mention. Took the screen of completely yesterday, what a difference! Why BMW passed that screen off as acceptable beats me. Just got to do something about the wind pressure on my chest now. All good fun . John
