Possible restart of events

Postby P-K » Fri Jul 31, 2020 10:20 am

What is the feeling amongst the members about a gradual resumption of some of our events, using social distancing of course.
I am also just considering those events where we can meet outside, in the first instance.
Let's have a discussion.

I'm all for a 'gradual resumption' and I think that the outside stipulation is a good one, even given the UK climate. If venues could be found that have covered outside seating areas it would certainly help, though it may mean a move away from some of the traditional meeting places. I can't help thinking that we should also plan to stay away from areas of mass resort... given the current situations that are happening all over the UK.

Hi Guys,
Having just had the first Northern Meet in Hawick last Sunday I think we should resume events after checking out the locations re social distancing and Toilet facilities.
Although we do need to be cautious especially after the problems in the north of England.

I'd be happy to attend the previously scheduled lunch meeting on August 18th at The Country Park Inn at Hessle - there's plenty of outside seating.

I've recently ridden my bike to meet up with friends - in the North of Perth and Kinross, Hawick, Hawes and York. I have a trip planned commencing on the 12th of August which should take my brother and me around England, including Land's End.

The risk of catching (or spreading) Covid-19 is present and won't disappear any time soon. Risk is a combination of severity and likelihood, and we all have to make our personal assessments. If we feel that the severity is high we may currently be shielding, or at least restricting social activities. If we are thinking of visiting an area which is experiencing increasing rates of infection, we may prefer to go somewhere else instead.

As for indoor or outdoor venues, I would always prefer outdoor but most people won't sit outside in the rain. Ideally therefore, a venue for a meet would have the option of reasonably well spaced seating indoors in case of British weather .....

So, my personal opinion is that we shouldn't use Covid-19 as a reason to cancel BM Rider meetings, but the venues may have to be re-assessed, then individuals make their own risk assessments. Let's hope we can get back to regular meets soon. :salute:

Me too although it could be the other people that create a problem with the social distancing. It may be worth looking at somewhere we know may not be as busy and near a large conurbation?

Peter your good with venues why not give PK a call and try something which is mutually agreeable to you. Happy to go with the flow!
