The Beach Cafe Montrose is open - I was there for a coffee today :

20200709_143629.jpg

The cafe was open only for takeaway food, drinks & ice cream. It will be open on Sunday.
The restaurant next door was closed but it too will be open on Sunday, with pre-booking, social distancing etc.
Unfortunately, there is no toilet for the use of the public (although the restaurant should have facilities for customers).

My conclusion is that a Northern Meet in Montrose on Sunday, while possible, is not realistic (unless anyone disagrees ??)

So, the next possibility is Morrison's Supermarket in Hawick on the 26th - any takers for that ? I may be away at that time, my brother and I are heading for a little tour taking in Northumberland, Suffolk, Devon and Cornwall. Fancy - waiting all this time for a Northern Meet, then I may just miss the first one !
Hi Gordon,
I agree that we need toilet facilities to be open and suitable for social distancing along with Cafe type facilities, so Montrose is probably not realistic as you say.
Morrison’s in Hawick May be but I’d like to check out their social distancing and facilities first, House of Bruar is a possibility but again I think it needs checking out before saying yay or nay...
Great excuse for a ride out eh!
Glad to see that you’re planning more long trips, I’m looking forward to Sammy Miller trip in October.
Regards
Keith

My thinking is that a supermarket cafe possibly isn't the best venue in the current circumstances... although things might change. House of Bruar is next on the list and that is definitely open, currently with seating in the courtyard and, failing that, plenty of green areas to sit, weather permitting... Don't know for sure if the loos are operating by I expect they will be... I will certainly check... failing that there are plenty of bushes nearby...

Hi Rob,
I’d feel better aiming for the House of Bruar, the facilities seem more appropriate.

I know the shop is 'fully open' and I know that the Fish and Chip shop has been open for some time with outside tables for them as wants 'em. Don't know about the restaurant yet but things are changing by the week so it may be a case of making the arrangements and confirming a day or two before. Not much of a ride for me I'm afraid but I can always go the pretty route (or one of the pretty routes) home...

So, Montrose almost certainly OUT, Hawick probably out (although I may have to force myself to have a ride through there to check it out for myself  ).
House of Bruar on the 9th of August seems like a real possibility, so I hope as many forum members as possible will have it in their diaries. I'll be back from my travels around England (and, possibly, Wales) and I may be preparing to set off for Ireland (North and South) but I'll keep the 9th free.
All going well, there will be "prizes". . :smt031 :hello1:

Haven't been there for some years but it was very good when I did. Perhaps another venue to consider for the group as things start to settle down.

Meigle's a nice run for me if I take the scenic route, so I'm up for a meet there as soon as we can agree it's "safe" - or within the guidance given by the authorities. And, more importantly for me, with suitable toilet arrangements.
I've taken to carrying hand sanitiser gel in case the best option is a quiet lay-by and a suitable bush.

Had a run through to Hawick today.
Morrison's Supermarket cafe was in full swing - distance markers, sanitiser station, track and trace QR code. And the toilets are open ! . \:D/
The cafe has tables inside and under the verandah outside too so, even if the weather isn't ideal, there would be somewhere to sit and blether.
Anyone care to join me on Sunday ?

Sorry Rob and Peter can't make it, but looking forward to seeing Keith and his RT. \:D/ .

If any other club members, forum members - or friends of either - want to come along, they'll be most welcome, but I'm guessing that two people constitute a "meet". I'll bring the freebies. :?:

12 o'clock-ish at Morrisons supermarket cafe, Mart Street, Hawick. TD9 9NQ. Let's hope the weather is kind .....

That was a good ride out to the first Northern meet of the year, good to meet up with Gordon and Keith again, enjoyed the chat and got a freebie coffee mug, happy days! Hope to see you again this year.
Cheers.

Indeed it was nice to ride further than Asda...
Arrived at Hawick Morrison’s Supermarket Petrol Station just behind Gordon...
The ride to Hawick was dry, plenty of younger motorcyclists on the road zooming past as I trundle along...
Morrison’s were well set up for social distancing and I ordered my traditional all day breakfast which was lovely, Gordon then arrived and of course we chatted about lockdown etc prior to Neil turning up after a nice dry-ish ride from Geordie-land.
As usual the chat was varied and interesting, the ride back home was much the same as the ride down to Hawick...
Thanks to Gordon for the lovely memento mug and thanks to both Gordon and Neil for their great company.
Regards
Keith

Well - that was a long time coming, and very welcome.

It felt like forever since we have had a Northern Meet and there were three of us - not bad for a first attempt ! Just as well Neil made it across the border !

The facilities at Morrison's included face coverings, social distancing, sanitising stations and functional toilets. We sat outside since the weather was fine and caught up with all the news. The "Northern Meet 2020" mugs were well received and there are some left for anyone turning up at a future meet - House of Bruar on the 9th of August anyone ?

I’m in Stirling with the caravan on the 9th or I would have been there.
Apologies.
At least I get the bike out the following week to do the NC500 with some work mates.
