K&N oil filter - which model?

Postby nikon70 » Fri Apr 26, 2019 11:18 am

I’ve just ordered a KN-160 but I think I ordered the wrong one...

Does the KN-160 fit or do I need the KN-164?

I reckon you need the shorter one, the 164.

Damn it! Thought as much, was hoping someone was going to reply saying they use the KN-160 with no issues

Why buy those filters????

Mahle original manufacturer for the BMW Part number OC306 and If you can order an OC 306D you get the crush washers too!

It'll probably fit, although I would personally want the correct one on my bike! Oh, if you stick with K&N, don't use the nut attachment when fitting the filter, it's only for removal - lots of reports of metal failure around the nut, and it seems that the issue is where the filter's been over-tightened when fitting....with that very handy nut! Hand-tight is more than enough.

As an aside, I only ever use BMW filters, Knecht-Mahle (who make the filters for BMW) or Mann.

Ok ordered the OC306
I already have crush washers

I just defaulted to K&N always have done on my Honda and Suzuki bikes and always hand tightened with a little oil around the seal after filling the oil filter with oil too.

But if the consensus is the 306 then that’s what I’ll go with.
