Very high idle speed tick over

Postby ogman » Sun Aug 04, 2019 1:00 pm

Hi there,
I have been riding my 2009 R1200RT to work and back for the past few weeks without any signs of bike issues.
Got on her to ride home on Friday afternoon and I noticed that the idle at cold was very high. Around 2200rpm.
After a short 15min ride home the idle had increased o around 2500rpm.
I have attached a picture of the live data from my GS-911 this morning hopefully to see if any one might be able to point me in the right direction before I start taking the fairings off.

Has anyone experienced the similar symptoms and even better found a fix for it?

Regards....... Ian

Could be something as simple as a frayed throttle cable sticking it open a bit? Can you snap the throttle closed a few times and get any variation in rpm?

It has been known for a stone to lodge in the throttle mechanism at the throttle bodies. Check these at both sides. (‘‘Tis the season for surface dressing!)

Aint that the truth. I actually stopped in my car yesterday a sudden horrible scraping noise.

Realised the council had been laying a "Roll yer own" road surface.

Cool, thank you for your replies.
I will get the fairing off and have a look once the little ankle biter has gone to bed.

Fingers crossed that it may be as simple as you have suggested.

Cheers..... Ian

I had a similar issue with my 2008 GS just after I bought it (2nd hand) in 2012. Turned out the throttle position sensor was faulty and had to be replaced. It's one reason TPS protective covers are sold by the likes of Touratech!
