No. of keys supplied for keyless bikes

Postby farzad » Wed Apr 10, 2019 9:12 am

Hi all
Can anyone, who purchased a new 1200 RT LE with keyless system, tell me how many "proper" keys came with the bike ?
I know they come with an emergency key as well, but was wondering about the other proper key with push buttons came with the bike.

Hi,

I got one "proper" key and one grey plastic "emergency" key with my K1600 last year. I'd guess all keyless BMWs would get the same.

Thanks Old Foxy.
I'll be picking up my 66 plate 1200RT LE later today.
I know the bike only has one proper key, but wasn't sure if that was normal or if the previous owner had lost one.
Thanks for confirming.

Picked up the bike yesterday and the manual confirms that the bike comes with only one proper key and one emergency key.

Perhaps it should have been "fobs" instead of "keys" 😁

The keyless fob does actually incorporate a key which can be used to double lock the panniers or top box, or to remove the rider's seat. In a three week, 4000 mile trip, the fob can stay in my pocket because I don't see a need to double lock anything or remove the seat.
The central locking takes care of the luggage and the filler cap will open to allow me to fill the tank once I switch off, even with the central locking locked. After filling up and closing the filler cap it then automatically re-locks.
Brilliant !
